We know that 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70. It is vital that every Australian protects their skin from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation to prevent skin cancer from developing. As well as protecting their skin, Australians should get to know their skin. This is done by having a regular skin check.
Skin cancer checks are important
because over 95% of skin cancers are treatable
if they’re discovered early enough.
What’s more, this includes 90% of melanomas. Regular skin cancer checks are the only way to guarantee early detection

Who should
take a regular skin check?
Skin cancer screenings are recommended for all adults and especially those at increased risk. Being at increased risk doesn’t mean you’ll get skin cancer, but you may need to start regular screenings in case you do get skin cancer and it can be caught early

Regular skin checks are vital, as they can pinpoint early signs of skin diseases (i.e. melanoma) before they advance.

What is a
full-body skin exam?
Full-body skin exams are relatively short, ranging anywhere between 10-20 minutes. During that time, your doctor will examine your skin from head-to-toe. The timing of the exam may vary, depending on if the doctor performs a biopsy, which is a procedure to remove a small piece of skin for testing.
